Prayer for Peace

With new episodes of violence afflicting the peoples of the Holy Land and Syria, it is necessary to renew our commitment to pray earnestly that the Lord may grant the gift of Peace. There is not anything — however difficult it may seem — that cannot be obtained by the power of prayer.

We invite you to pray during Lauds and Vespers this short prayer, which is added to the intercessions of the Liturgy of the Hours.

The initiative is from the Franciscans of the Holy Land. ”

Lauds

In the formula addressed to the Father

Look up on the suffering people in the Holy Land and in Syria

– and transform them into courageous builders of your Kingdom of justice, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit.

In the formula addressed to the Son

You [Lord], Risen from the dead has left to your Church the gift of peace

– make us witnesses of this gift to work truly in the midst of the suffering which wound the people of the Holy Land and Syria

Vespers

In the formula addressed to the Father

You who, in your Son, have shown yourself to be the Father of all men, of whatever people, language or culture they belong to

-infuse your Spirit on those who have in their hands the leadershipof the nations, that they may truly promote the concord, justice and dignity of man.

In the formula addressed to the Son

Jesus, Word of Truth and Faithful Witness, who accepted suffering and death for our salvation,

-grant your Spirit, that, in the midst of the violence which afflict the people of the Holy Land and Syria, we might courageously bear witness to You, the Only Truth who sets us free.
